For the 20 time
project, my group and I wanted to give back. Most people have been affected by
cancer in some way. We decided that we want to help the fight against cancer
through the University of Iowa Hospital. Our project has two parts, the first
part is to make bracelets for children in the pediatric oncology department. We
want to make them have a better day because some days are better than others
and it would fun bringing a smile to their faces. The second part of the
project is to raise money to donate to the University of Iowa cancer research.
A lot of the feedback we got was positive, someone suggested that we make an
announcement to the whole school about making bracelets and have people help
make them for the patients. So far we have started the research for our end
product which will be a TED talk. A lot of our research has to do with
statistics. What we have to do in the near future is call the University of
Iowa hospitals and see if they allow people to give bracelets to the patients
and how many patients we can give them to because some patients may not want
visitors. So far we have talked to Mr. Mallicoat and he agreed to be our
mentor. By the end of next week we want to talk to Mr. Kline and the University
of Iowa hospitals and start making the bracelets.
